The Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commission (APRSC) is community-governed and acts as a delivery agent to ensure that communities receive the services they pay for. It does not constitute another level of government; decisions are made by the communities via their representatives on the Commission’s board. The province’s RSCs have no taxation powers, although they do bill for services provided.

The APRSC works on behalf of its member communities and receives funding from them.

Services

The 12 regional service commissions were established in 2013 to facilitate the necessary collaboration between communities, to ensure they can better meet the service needs of residents and to benefit from collective efforts aimed at strengthening the regions.

In 2023, major changes were made to local governance. The main changes were the consolidation of several communities and the expansion of the regional service commissions’ mandates.
